Hi Everyone,
Let’s hoard some Tavel Rosé!
We plowed through a bevvy of samples this morning – A fun/highly recommended new way to wake up and shake out the cobwebs!
Our objective?
To find overachieving examples of 2024 releases that individually showcased the three major soil types that exist in the Tavel AOC: limestone, sand, and smooth pebble.
How was the 2024 vintage in Tavel?
In many ways it represents a return to the “old” days, with paler than usual color, lower alcohol, and bright acid.
There is more parity in Tavel than probably any other appellation in wine – The AOC guidelines here are strict, and the Tavel board will reject wine that isn’t excellent, meaning each year you will see a narrow (but great!) band of quality across the appellation.
The table started full (we should have taken a photo).
By the time the clock struck nine, four wines made the final cut.
As usual, today’s pricing is deliciously competitive for the category. Compare today’s rate to other folks’ Tavel and enjoy the savings…

Domaine du Vieil Aven 2024 Tavel Rosé
Do you seek something a bit more oxidative that will be singing on all fronts well before the Fourth of July? If so, don’t mind what has to be the ugliest looking packaging in the appellation and go long on Domaine du Vieil Aven!
Domaine La Cabanette 2024 Tavel Rosé
An unusually old Carignan component makes the Domaine La Cabinette stand out, and this develops a really pretty orange hue over time for those patient enough to hold it.
Domaine Pelaquie 2024 Tavel Rosé
The Domaine Pelaquie release has an interesting saline component, thanks to the calcareous slopes on which the vines grow, making it our go-to again this year for folks who seek serious mineral snap in their Tavel.
Domaine la Rocaliere 2024 Tavel Rosé
Rocaliere is traditional-to-the-bone, biodynamically farmed, and dead-serious. This 2024 edition of Rocaliere will end up as one of the overall best examples in the appellation. Vines used here come from all three soil types, and uniquely, this is an all-female crew from ownership, to winemaking, to sales.
